We were privileged and delighted to take part in continuing our support of the Food Bank...We do so much charitable work, but and it feels good to help provide for those in need of food

Top New York moving company Shleppers Moving & Storage is proud to announce its recent donation of time, trucks and support to the Food Bank of Westchester.

To help address the growing demand of families needing food, municipalities and libraries join county departments in organizing food drives on Tuesday, June 22nd and Wednesday, June 23rd as part of a countywide effort sponsored by Westchester County and the Westchester Municipal Officials Association. Donations were distributed to almost 200 local hunger relief agencies by Food Bank for Westchester or given directly to a local food agency.

County Executive Robert P. Astorino said the need is “constant and never-ending” and noted that the number of families and individuals receiving food stamps through the county’s Department of Social Services went up almost 20 percent last year.

“Even in Westchester, there are families that can’t afford to put food on the table, and it’s our obligation as a community to do something about it,” he said. “Food pantries and soup kitchen supplies are at their lowest point in the summer months. All it would take to get those shelves stocked is for everyone to pick up a few extra items the next time they go shopping and drop them off at their town hall or library.”

At least 20 municipalities signed up to participate: Ardsley, Bedford, Cortlandt, Larchmont, Lewisboro, Mamaroneck, Mount Kisco, Mount Pleasant, Mount Vernon, North Castle, Peekskill, Pelham, Port Chester, Rye Brook, Scarsdale, Somers, Tarrytown, Tuckahoe, Yonkers and Yorktown. More than a dozen county departments and many of the libraries in the Westchester Library System also organized their own collections.

Pick-ups of any high-volume donations to the Food Bank will be provided completely free of charge by Shleppers Moving and Storage of Yonkers.

"We were privileged and delighted to take part in continuing our support of the Food Bank" comments Shleppers President, Jason Friedland. "We do so much charitable work, but and it feels good to help provide for those in need of food."
