The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued notice on Tuesday last week (29 June 2010) that Doku Umarov, the Chechen leader, has been added to its Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. Mr Umarov has been profiled by World-Check since 2005, a further illustration of just how World-Check intelligence is providing thousands of organizations with early warning on potential risks.

Daniel Peak, Chief Executive Officer of World-Check, commented, “The inclusion of Mr Umarov on the World-Check database five years before his designation on the OFAC list is yet another example of the excellence and reach of our research capabilities.”

Doku Umarov is thought to be one of the most influential Chechen separatist warlords in the Caucasus region and he is one of Russia’s most wanted rebels. He served as Chechnya’s security minister during its short-lived independence between 1996 and 1999 and he is also believed to be responsible for several high-profile rebel raids.
Daniel Peak, Chief Executive Officer of World-Check, commented, “The inclusion of Mr Umarov on the World-Check database five years before his designation on the OFAC list is yet another example of the excellence and reach of our research capabilities.”
