The replacement of the turf in the indoor facility was a must for our football team

The University of Minnesota has selected FieldTurf for the Gophers’ Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex. The new surface will be the same FieldTurf system that the UM plays on during its home games at TCF Bank Stadium. FieldTurf was installed at the Gophers’ sparkling new stadium in June of 2009, and was in place when Minnesota’s football team debuted there last fall.

The new FieldTurf surface at the Gibson-Nagurski complex replaces an AstroPlay field. It will, of course, be available to the Gophers when they report for the opening of practice in August.

“The replacement of the turf in the indoor facility was a must for our football team,” said Minnesota Head Coach Tim Brewster. “It was worn and the new surface is exactly like what’s in TCF Bank Stadium. It’s a first-class upgrade for our football program. It will certainly help our players and coaches as far as our preparations are concerned.”

“FieldTurf has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Minnesota Gopher athletics, and we are very proud of that,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “We will continue to work hard on all fronts to provide Gopher football with a playing surface that is far-and-away the best and safest in the industry. And we’re delighted in the confidence that has continued to be shown to us by (Director of Athletics) Joel Maturi and by Coach Brewster.”

The Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex opened in 1985, and was named in honor of Gopher greats George Gibson and Bronko Nagurski. The complex is a state-of-the-art facility that houses the UM administrative offices, team meeting rooms, equipment room, training room and the players’ lounge. It also includes a 12,000 square-foot multi-level weight training facility along with medical/training facilities. In addition, UM’s Hall of Fame, which honors the tradition of Gopher football, is also housed in the Gibson-Nagurski Complex.

FieldTurf dominates both the NCAA and NFL. The list of major universities who play their home games on FieldTurf include Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, West Virginia, Kansas State, Missouri, Texas Tech, Iowa, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Cincinnati and Louisville. Twenty-one of the NFL's 32 teams have chosen FieldTurf in their stadiums and/or practice facilities.
