Kitchen Designers Plus announces that kitchen sales should not be affected by the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) being implemented by Ontario and British Columbia.
Construction companies and suppliers throughout Canada have been riding a growing wave of demand, largely thanks to the Home Renovation Tax Credit sponsored by the Canadian government. However, that program ended in February, 2010. With the arrival of HST, will that demand continue, or will it slump?
The HST is a combining of two different taxes, the GST (federal tax) and PST (provincial tax). Under the old taxation rules, many items were exempted, or were only taxed under GST or PST, rather than both. However, with the Harmonized Sales Tax program, some items will now be subject to a 13% sales tax (12% for British Columbia).
Will these figures subdue the sales for cabinets, appliances and other commonly renovated items? According to the experts at Kitchen Designers Plus, an award-winning firm dating back to 1961, the new HST will not affect sales of kitchen cabinets, kitchen appliances, such as refrigerators and stoves, nor will the HST make a difference in most other kitchen sales.
The reason for this is simply that most items previously exempt from GST will remain exempt (93% of products are estimated to see no change in taxable status). The HST is truly a simple combining of two different taxes into one manageable system. For items that were previously subjected to both the PST and the GST, the 13% tax rate remains the same. There is now a simple combination into a single tax, rather than two separate taxes.
Kitchen Designers Plus will continue to offer luxurious kitchen renovation in Toronto, the highest quality kitchen appliances and the high-end products for which they have become known, at affordable prices. Homeowners will find that renovating the kitchen is just as easy with the HST in place as it was under the old tax regime.
