HCL International, the leading global health and social care recruitment company and part of HCL plc, welcomed an unexpectedly high turnout of GPs and social workers interested in working in Australia, at an invitation-only event hosted by the Australian High Commission in London last night.
HCL International is recruiting in partnership with the State Governments of Victoria and the Northern Territory for hundreds of GP roles in private and state funded practices, as well as social workers in a range of specialties. The roles available range from posts of eighteen months to two years in length, to longer term vacancies with the option to apply for permanent residency.
GPs and social workers attending the event were able to network with State Government representatives and learn about the processes involved in moving to Australia to work, from registering to practice to transferring money, to help in finding their spouses jobs, and children schools. HCL International’s specialist recruitment teams will guide them through the whole process, from introduction to clients, to interview advice, to help with relocation. Next month, representatives from the State Governments of Victoria and the Northern Territory will visit HCL International’s UK office to interview prospective candidates in person.
With Australia experiencing critical shortages in key health and social care staff, UK professionals find themselves in high demand due to the relative similarity of practice in the two countries. Australian health and social care practitioners take a similar approach to their peers in the UK, especially as the two countries have a language and culture in common. British GPs and social workers are hugely admired for their skills, knowledge of socio-economic issues and tried and proven methods of care.

In the Northern Territory they will work with rural communities with their own specific needs, while in Victoria they will work in more urbanised environments encountering similar socio-economic issues as in the UK.
