Our aim with the LiveSmart campaign is to raise awareness about improved home security, in a fun, engaging way.
Foothill Ranch, CA (PRWEB) July 12, 2010
Kwikset®, a leader in the residential door hardware industry, today announced the launch of the national “LiveSmart” Sweepstakes, which aims to show parents and homeowners how simple and easy, “smart” home security can be. The sweepstakes will run through Nov. 1, 2010, and you can enter to win at http://www.KwiksetLiveSmart.com. Entrants will have the chance to win one of a series of “smart” home giveaway packages that will include Kwikset SmartKey® product(s), along with other smart products for your home, including the grand prize, a Smart Car: smart fortwo coupe. Kwikset’s SmartKey re-key technology allows homeowners to re-key their own locks anytime, quickly and easily, without removal from the door. A perfect solution when you have a set of keys that have been lost, loaned or unreturned. No purchase is necessary to enter the “LiveSmart” Sweepstakes and rules and regulations can be found on the website.
The most recent Unified Crime Report (UCR) from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) indicates that there were more than 2.2 million burglaries reported in 2008 alone. Unfortunately, that’s an increase of two percent when compared to 2007; an increase of 3.6 percent compared to 2004; and an increase of 5.8 percent compared to 1999.
Given this information, Kwikset was even more alarmed when the results of last year’s inaugural American Security Study1 (July 2009) revealed that 47 percent of homeowners did not change or re-key the locks to their home when first moving in. Nearly one-third have never changed their locks or had them re-keyed at any point since moving in, despite the fact that more than half of homeowners surveyed routinely loan house keys to non-residents, and previous homeowners often continue to carry old house keys.
“A significant take-away from last year’s study was that American homeowners may not even be aware that their home security is compromised,” said Brent Flaharty, vice president, Marketing, Kwikset. “Our aim with the LiveSmart campaign is to raise awareness about improved home security, in a fun, engaging way. SmartKey and SmartCode have been incredibly popular since their introduction, and we want even more people to understand how this highly secure and affordable technology is a smart and simple solution to their home security needs.”

Kwikset developed its SmartKey re-key technology more than three years ago. Kwikset’s SmartKey deadbolt was the first-ever, affordable, re-keyable lock available to the residential market and is now available in a wide variety of Kwikset deadbolts and lock products at various price points.
SmartKey locks and deadbolts feature a patented side-locking bar technology, central to the locks ability to be rapidly and easily re-keyed. This stainless steel side-locking bar also replaces the traditional pin and tumbler design that is particularly vulnerable to increasingly popular lock-bumping attacks. SmartKey deadbolts and locks also come with its standard BumpGuard™ protection built-in. In addition, the cylinder uses two steel balls inserted into the front of the key face to provide improved drill resistance. Delivering outstanding strength and protection, SmartKey deadbolts and locks have passed the most stringent lock picking standard, UL 437, par. 11.6.
Kwikset's SmartKey Signature Series™ deadbolts also have earned the prestigious Best Buy rating from Consumers Digest Magazine in the residential deadbolt lock category. Selected based on performance and features, the “Best Buys” in residential deadbolt locks were announced in an article published in the February 2010 issue titled, “Peace of Mind: Top-Notch Door Locks and Safes.”
In addition to the “LiveSmart” Sweepstakes, Kwikset will be traveling to home improvement retailers across the country on a mobile tour to educate homeowners on improved, “smart” home security. The brand-new Kwikset mobile showroom will set-up shop at select locations and will feature an emcee, games and giveaways for the entire family. Attendees will also have a chance to enter the “LiveSmart” Sweepstakes onsite.
