Although many physical therapists in Boston resort to simultaneously booking patients and employing aides to administer full or partial treatment programs, Joint Ventures Physical Therapy and Fitness (http://www.jointventurespt.com) is taking it old-school by providing what is almost unheard of these days: one-on-one patient care.

Co-founders Dan Brownridge and David Larson opened their Kenmore Square office in the spring of 2005 after realizing that the impersonal assembly-line approach of administering treatment was out of alignment with their vision of what patients deserve from a physical therapy session. Now, having just opened their 6th office in the Boston area, they are well known as the premier provider of physical therapy and wellness services.

“Lots of patients have come to expect that when they see a physical therapist, they will have to share that therapist’s time with other patients,” says Brownridge. But that type of model lends to overcrowded facilities, longer wait times for equipment, and lack of personal attention, making treatment inefficient — and sometimes ineffective. That’s not what patients should expect at Joint Ventures.

“We’re committed to a patients-first philosophy,” says Larson. “If you’re used to having aides, students or assistants running back and forth getting treatment instructions from a main therapist, you’ll be surprised when you come here and consistently get focused care from a dedicated professional.” Instead, Joint Ventures creates customized treatment programs for their patients, using state-of-the-art rehabilitation and fitness equipment, as well as a combination of manual, traditional, and sports medicine techniques.

But clinical patient care isn’t where their work ends. Besides treating injuries, Joint Ventures has formed a virtual one-stop wellness shop, emphasizing therapy as a way to repair injuries, but ongoing fitness and wellness programs as essential to preventing future injuries. Patients are educated on how they can take charge of their fitness with a home program or continuing their care with an on-site service once their therapy is complete.

The 6 facilities around the Boston and Cambridge area are all equipped with complete weight training and cardio equipment and are staffed with personal trainers, fitness coaches, yoga instructors, nutritionists, massage therapists, chiropractors, and acupuncturists.

“We don’t just say to our patients, ‘Okay, therapy’s over. Come back if you get another injury,’” says Larson. “Instead, we encourage them to stay active and educated on how they can prevent injuries from happening again. And if they want to come back and use some of our other services, we’re happy to have them.”
