Free Subscription for Publishers

Publishers won’t have to wait for the perfect submission to magically appear in their slush piles.

Pubmission is offering a free one-year subscription to publishing professionals who sign up as beta-testers before August 31, 2010. Once beta-testing ends, the yearly subscription rate will be US$300. Pubmission does not charge publishers a finder’s fee when they contract writers.

Pubmission is designed to help writers and publishing professionals navigate the submissions process. It strives to streamline the process publishers and literary agents use to find new writing talent by giving them the ability to target the types of submissions they want.

In addition to receiving works sent directly from writers, subscribing publishing professionals can also take a more active role in the process. They can search the site’s database for the works they currently need. Weekly e-mail alerts inform them of new submissions and five-star ratings from professional editors help publishers quickly gauge the potential salability of works in their sortable dashboards.

“As the volume of writers and publishers on the site grows, editors will have the entire database at their fingertips,” says Wolf Hoelscher, Pubmission’s owner. “They won’t have to wait for the perfect submission to magically appear in their slush piles. All they have to do is search the database for it.”

During the beta-testing period, writers who sign up will receive 15 free credits to use toward any of Pubmission’s features. With each submission, a writer can include keywords, along an abstract and writing sample, to make it easier for publishers to spot something that suits their lists.

“I’m a former acquisitions editor who once saw his department dissolve because we just couldn’t find the writing talent we needed to compete,” says Hoelscher. “After that I realized what editors and agents need—what the publishing industry as a whole needs—is a way to transform our method of discovering new writing talent from a passive to a more active process. That’s what Pubmission is.”

To receive the free one-year subscription, publishers should enter promo code “waived100” upon sign-up. More information about Pubmission is available at pubmission.com.
