AltusGroup, Inc. ( http://www.altusprecast.com ) – a partnership of 13 precast concrete manufacturers and industry suppliers dedicated to innovation – has elected Rick Pennell from Metromont chairman of the board starting June 1, 2010 through spring 2012.

Pennell is president and CEO of Greenville, S.C.-based Metromont, one of the leading precasters in the Southeast and a founding member of AltusGroup. Metromont has completed more projects using AltusGroup’s licensed CarbonCast® technology than any other precast manufacturer in the group. He has 28 years of precast industry experience and has been at the helm of Metromont since 1998. He has been on the board of AltusGroup since the organization’s genesis in 2003.

Pennell replaces Chris Pastorius, president of Oldcastle Precast – Building Systems. Pastorius served AltusGroup as chairman from April 2009. During his tenure, Pastorius maintained the membership of the organization, initiated the expansion of AltusGroup into new markets and saw the introduction of the CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding product ( http://altusprecast.com/products/insulated-architectural-cladding/ ).

Other board members confirmed for the 2010-2011 term were John Carson (Secretary) and John Leatham from Chomarat North America LLC, Harry Gleich (Treasurer) from Metromont, Gary Graziano and Mike Achilles from High Concrete Group LLC, Pastorius and Bob Adams from Oldcastle Precast – Building Systems, Dean Gwin from Gate Precast, and Dr. Thomas Harmon from the Washington University in St. Louis.

Achilles was elected chair of AltusGroup’s marketing committee. Larbi Sennour, president of The Consulting Engineers Group in San Antonio, Tex., was elected chair of the organization’s technical committee.

Since the inception of AltusGroup, member companies have completed more than 330 projects with innovative CarbonCast ( http://www.carboncast.com ) technology, which use C-GRID® carbon fiber grid as a replacement for welded wire mesh and as a shear connector in building enclosure systems and as flange reinforcing in double tees for parking structures. Nearly 18 million square feet of CarbonCast surface area have been erected throughout the United States.
