New EMA research provides one of the most in-depth studies of security services to date, with survey data from 200 organizations worldwide.

For many years, the outsourcing of security was something considered guardedly at best by many organizations. Today, that picture is changing as never before

Enterprise Management Associates (EMA), a leading IT and data management research and consulting firm, recently released its latest research report entitled, “Security as a Service.” Dramatic increases in vulnerabilities and threats, coupled with growing compliance requirements, have made security into one of the most challenging domains of IT and data management. One way organizations are facing these challenges is through security services. This latest EMA research gathers data from 200 organizations of all sizes worldwide to explore the growing trend of security outsourcing.

“For many years, the outsourcing of security was something considered guardedly at best by many organizations. Today, that picture is changing as never before,” says Scott Crawford, Managing Director of Security and Risk Management at EMA. “The efficiencies of a hosted model, relief from the burdens of technology maintenance in a fast-changing field, and increased interest overall in the outsourcing of IT are making enterprises take a new and different view of security services. While not a panacea, and not always the primary or even the best answer for some security management priorities, managed and hosted security services offer alternatives that are having a significant impact on the nature of security management and the shape of the security market to come.”

Some of the key findings covered in the report are:
*Drivers motivating consideration and adoption of security services, with emphasis on Managed Security Services and security technology offered as a hosted service (“Security SaaS”)
*Trends in adoption of security services, including areas showing significant increase
*Key factors in those cases where security services are not in use or use is declining
*Distinctions in drivers and trends among large enterprises vs. SMBs, and among North American organizations vs. the rest of the world
