OpenDNS, the world's largest provider of Internet navigation and security services that make networks safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced that the Hampton Inn & Suites Oceanfront Resort has deployed OpenDNS's cloud-based recursive DNS service for always-on Web content filtering in its business center. The Hampton Inn & Suites Oceanfront Resort, located on the beach in Myrtle Beach, SC, is a franchise of the Hampton hotel chain, part of Hilton Hotels Corp, one of the world's largest hospitality corporations.
The hotel is a destination for both business and leisure travelers, but the business center is an amenity most frequently needed by corporate guests. The hotel management needed to ensure that computers were available for the business guests who needed them -- not vacation travelers checking Facebook -- and chose OpenDNS for its quick and easy to set up Web content filtering.
"We needed a simple solution for Web content filtering for our business center, and the solutions we tried fell down at the task," explained IT Manager Ross Lindsay. "In our business center we block social networking because our younger guests stay on the computers all day and all night, which consequently makes our business guests unhappy."
"Social Networking" is one of the 57+ categories that can be easily blocked with OpenDNS Web content filtering. Prior to deploying OpenDNS, the hotel tried other options for Web content filtering, including software-based filtering solutions on individual computers, but found they weren't compatible with some other required software. When they looked into appliance-based filtering options, Lindsay realized they either didn't work, or were overkill for the simple task of ensuring that the business center is available for corporate customers.
Web content filtering is the first benefit of using OpenDNS for the Hampton Inn & Suites Oceanfront Resort; the second is that the business center now has faster and more reliable Internet, and no longer needs to rely on their ISP's slow and unreliable DNS service.
"My experience has been absolutely amazing with OpenDNS," said Lindsay.
OpenDNS is the world's leading provider of Internet navigation and security services that make networks safer, faster, smarter and more reliable. Through DNS resolution, cloud-based Web content filtering and security services, OpenDNS empowers millions of households, schools and businesses to control how users navigate the Internet on their network, while dramatically increasing the network's overall performance and reliability.
