Tethered Cap

The new tethered products really add value to the entire supply chain; by reducing Tier 1 and OEM assembly costs, by improving average fuel economy for the fleet of vehicles, and reduces costs for service repair centers.

Viking Plastics, a VPI Acquisition Corporation company and global supplier of engineered, injection molded and assembled sealing solutions for the automotive and HVAC industries, has launched a complete line of new tethered charge port caps used in automotive air conditioning systems. The line of threaded sealing cap assemblies will allow original equipment manufacturers to meet the SAE J639 specification requiring tethered caps.

The new line of products will expand the largest HVAC product selection in the marketplace. The patent-pending integrated shipping cap and tethered charge port cap assembly will fit onto a wide range of valve sizes, with the most popular being M8x1.0, M9x1.0, M10x0.75, M10x1.25 SAE and JRA style valves.

Viking Plastics has supplied air conditioning and fuel related threaded sealing assemblies to the automotive and appliance markets for 20 years. As part of its ongoing industry leadership, Viking Plastics participated in the multi-year industry effort (SAE IMAC) to improve the R134a based HVAC systems performance and reduce vehicle emissions. “The new tethered products really add value to the entire supply chain; by reducing Tier 1 and OEM assembly costs, by improving average fuel economy for the fleet of vehicles, and reduces costs for service repair centers,” Said Kelly Goodsel – President/CEO. “Similar to the tethered gas caps, by tethering the air conditioning charge port cap, the supply chain can attach the cap at the initial sub-assembly and it will follow all the way to the final vehicle assembly and throughout the life of the vehicle.” To see a demonstration of Viking Plastics new tethered HVAC charge port visit (YouTube link).
