The U.S. Department of Labor recently issued grants for Homeless Veterans Reintegration and Homeless Female Veterans & Veterans with Families to Veterans Service Organizations throughout the United States. The American GI Forum-National Veterans Outreach Program (NVOP) received grants to continue their services throughout the state of Texas.
The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) and the Homeless Female Veterans & Veterans with Families (HFVVF) grants are specific for the NVOP as they provide services to assist in reintegrating homeless Veterans into meaningful employment within the labor force. Especially, the HFVVF grant which will allow the NVOP with the resources to target obstacles experienced by the homeless female veteran.
Yolanda Suarez, Senior Vice President of the NVOP, described the grants as "vital to the job training and job placement services we provide throughout the State of Texas." Ms. Suarez continued by saying that the HVRP and HFVVF grants will enhance the NVOP's development for effective services to the community of veterans and their families.
The American GI Forum-National Veterans Outreach Program (NVOP) was founded in 1972 with their headqarters in San Antonio, Texas and where the NVOP's Homeless Veteran Housing Center is located. The NVOP have numerous Outreach field offices throughout the State of Texas, including Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth and Houston . Also, as part of the NVOP's employment opportunities, they operate two business enterprises: a corrugated box manufacture and a weatherization service company.
The NVOP is recognized Nationally as one of the premier providers to Veterans. They also have received numerous awards for their successful program operations, including the U. S. Department of Labor's "Regional Award for Cost Effectiveness" and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's "National Blue Ribbon Award."
