Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 16, 2010
For the first time since 2005, landscape architecture/park design is one of the top reasons public works departments use architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms, according to the PUBLIC WORKS magazine Top AEC Firm survey.
The survey reveals that although the greatest percentage of readers continues to use AEC firms largely for road and water projects, nearly one-third are now turning to these same firms for landscape architecture park/design.
Every year Hanley Wood’s PUBLIC WORKS magazine compiles its listing of North America’s top AEC firms involved in nonfederal public works projects and released its list today on PUBLIC WORKS.
“There’s more nongeneral revenue funding available than ever before for projects that incorporate nature,” said Stephanie Johnston, editor in chief for PUBLIC WORKS. “Driven by the federal imperative to clean up rain, which picks up oil, dirt and other pollutants before washing into rivers and lakes, readers and their consulting partners are deploying multipurpose solutions whenever possible. Our research shows that readers are using sustainable solutions to enhance the quality of life for their communities while reducing costs for the department.”
The survey also reflects that, after bottoming out last year, when 75% of respondents reported contracting an AEC firm, the percentage has rebounded slightly to 77%. In 2005 and 2006, 92% of respondents used an AEC firm.
