SJSA believes that every child has talent, but that there can be no athletic or artistic achievement without personal achievement. It is the hope and belief of the foundation that by combining these two elements during this stage of their lives, our students will greatly improve their ability to realize their true potential.

recognizing and guiding children at an early age is a crucial component to developing their talent as well as their character.

The Sean James Student Athletes Foundation (SJSA), whose mission is to provide youth who have achieved academic success and display a passion for sports and the arts, the opportunity to attend sports and creative art camps throughout the country, thus fostering leadership and confidence, is proud to announce the 2010 SJSA/Boys & Girls Club Scholarship winners.

The 2010 scholarship winners have been chosen not only based on their athletic and artistic talent, but also based on their academic achievements. Recommendations were also made by both teachers and coaches, who not only see their students’ emerging talents, but who also want to see their students continue to strengthen their given abilities. This year’s summer camps include two athletic and one music/theatrical camp.

The Randy Dreiling Football Camp, is held at Hutchinson High School in Hutchinson Kansas, Sean James' alma mater. Sean himself was a student athlete at Hutchinson High School from 1983 -1987. Dreiling is entering his fourteenth season as head coach at Hutchinson High School and has led the school to six consecutive Kansas State Championships, breaking the state record. As a result of developing this program from the ground up, Hutchinson High School is currently recognized on the national level. The Randy Dreiling Football camp instills the fundamentals of football, team play, sportsmanship and fitness in its campers. Players compete with teams from other nearby counties, where they then put their practice into motion.

Joining Hutchinson High School as the head coach of the football program in 1997, Coach Dreiling saw the potential to create champions in the community by instilling in them the core values and skills needed to be successful student athletes. By recognizing the need to foster the key elements of work ethic, discipline, and skill at a critical age, student athletes were created who would enter into high school ready to meet and exceed the challenges put before them. These values align with those of SJSA. Sean James firmly believes that "recognizing and guiding children at an early age is a crucial component to developing their talent as well as their character". It is for this reason that SJSA selects students between the ages of 8 -14. SJSA believes that every child has talent, but that there can be no athletic or artistic achievement without personal achievement. It is the hope and belief of the foundation that by combining these two elements during this stage of their lives, our students will greatly improve their ability to realize their true potential.

The Princeton University Sports Camp, operating since 1990, has been offering camps for young athletes in 22 sports. This year’s winners have chosen to participate in the basketball camps for both boys and girls. The camps are held on the historic campus of Princeton University, in Princeton, New Jersey. Campers are assigned to a coached team and play two officiated, full-court games per day. Awards are given to winning team members in each division as well as to individual contest winners and outstanding campers. SJSA has been proudly affiliated with this Ivy League institution since 2003. Over the past seven years, they have jointly created fourteen student athletes and SJSA looks forward to a continued partnership with them in the coming years.

Camp Broadway in the heart of New York City offers master classes in singing, dancing and theater arts taught by Broadway-trained faculty. Campers are divided into two age groups and perform a Broadway musical and a finale. SJSA has always taken a broader understanding of the word "athlete". The foundation is proud to include children who excel in the arts among its scholarship winners. It looks forward to embracing the arts, and all of the incredibly talented children who will be our next generation of artists on the stage and beyond.

Rosemarie Rivera            5th Grade

To further spotlight Rosemarie Rivera...
Rosemarie attended the Alfred E. Smith Elementary School in New York City, and has recently celebrated the milestone of graduating and moving on to Middle School. The SJSA Foundation Facebook page will feature a self-documented You Tube video of Rosemarie while she takes center-stage, sings like no one is watching, and shows off her “Find Your Stride” SJSA charity bracelet. With the support of her parents and her teacher Ms. Danielle Toledano, who said she saw in Rosemarie “an innate ability and drive to succeed”, we are sure that she will “reach for the stars as she continues to grow into her gift”.

From its inception in 2007 until last summer, SJSA was able to send seven deserving student athletes to camp. As a result of the launch of the SJSA charity bracelet and t-shirt line in early 2010, SJSA is proud to report that in this summer alone, it has more than doubled that number. By the end of the 2010 season, SJSA in conjunction with our camp affiliates will have started seventeen student athletes/artists on their paths greatness. Your generosity and belief in our children has made this dream a reality for them. We look forward to your continued support as SJSA looks ahead to 2011 with the hope of making the dreams of even more student athletes/artists come true!
