Bergan has partnered with the ASPCA and other pet industry leaders such as Red Lion Hotels and VetSource to create a movement that promotes pet travel safety.

It’s our goal to spread the word about how real an issue pet restraint is through the Holiday Roads campaign.

Collective Bias, the leading social shopper marketing firm, is sending ten bloggers on vacation in July and early August to promote awareness for pet travel safety. Each blogger will keep his or her dog safe while traveling with ASPCA branded travel harnesses designed by Bergan, a pet product development company.

More people are traveling with their dogs each day (up 300% since 2005.) Recent estimates calculated that 38% of pet owners travel at least once per month with their pets. (http://www.petrelocation.com/summer-pet-travel-survey).

Bergan has partnered with the ASPCA and other pet industry leaders such as Red Lion Hotels and VetSource to create Paws to Click – a movement that encourages pet owners to restrain their pets while traveling. According to PawsToClick.com, unrestrained pets cause more than 30,000 auto accidents each year.

Additionally, only 2% of pet owners restrain their pets while traveling, and many safety harnesses currently on the market fail in average crash conditions (a 60-pound dog generates over 1,200 pounds of force in a 35 mile-per-hour crash.) Bergan has created an open standard called V9DT that certifies pet safety harnesses for strength and durability.

“It’s our goal to spread the word about how real an issue pet restraint is through the Holiday Roads campaign,” said Tibor Siklosi, head of Product Development for Bergan. “Followers of the campaign can get first-hand accounts of how Social Fabric community members use and like the pet harnesses. I look forward to hearing their stories.”

On the cutting edge of social shopper marketing strategy, Collective Bias has successfully worked with bloggers and other social media influencers to create conversations about brands and help clients connect directly with consumers. Collective Bias is helping Bergan to publicize PawsToClick through a number of platforms that include blogs, Twitter, Facebook, a social aggregator site at at HolidayRoads.info and the location-based social discovery application Whrrl. The Holiday Roads Society on Whrrl gives society members the opportunity to share fun and safe pet activity locations with their friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter.

“With so many accidents as a result of unrestrained pets each year, I believe that it's imperative that all pet owners harness their animals for both the safety of the driver as well as our beloved pets,” said Zipporah Sandler, community leader for the Holiday Roads project, “My miniature bull-terrier, Clem, is an important member of our family and he deserves to be as safe as we are when traveling.”
