The Halifax Pride festivities started in Halifax, Nova Scotia this week, with thousands of visitors and locals alike coming together for Halifax Pride, Atlantic Canada’s largest LGBTQ cultural festival.
Halifax, a gay-friendly travel destination, hosts the eight-day Halifax Pride festival, which features something for everyone. From the Queer Acts Theatre Festival to the Halifax Pride Songwriters Circle, a traditional Halifax harbour cruise on the tall ship Silva to a family swim, picnic and BBQ at the Dartmouth Commons, there are tons of activities to celebrate gay Halifax culture that are open to everyone. The highlight of the week’s festivities is the 23rd annual Halifax Pride parade, the fourth largest pride parade in Canada, as it winds its way through the heart of Halifax from 1pm – 3pm July 24th.
Halifax visitors can also take advantage of an array of Halifax entertainment options during and after Halifax Pride for an extended stay in a city. July 24th sees Halifax Rocks the Commons with the Black Eyed Peas, Weezer and local wrapper Classified in concert. A Halifax tradition, Natal Day celebrates the birthday of the historic city and the sense of community spirit, with a parade, children’s activities, concerts and a fabulous fireworks display July 29-August 2. August 5-15 Halifax hosts the 24th annual Halifax International Buskers Festival where street theatre comes alive with over 500 performances and unique Halifax entertainment. And country music fans will gather August 6-7 at the Halifax Commons for Country RockFest 2010 for family friendly performances by 7 artists including George Canyon, Lonestar and Alan Jackson.
