Columbia River Roofing of Gresham, Oregon (DBA Advanced Thermal Concepts) has been granted a construction patent for the Vapor Armour™ vapor barrier system by the U.S. Government.

Columbia River Roofing has been an authorized Duro-Last contractor since 1999. The Vapor Armour solution is a revolutionary, state-of-the-art, impregnable vapor barrier and roof system integration, designed specifically for the cold storage / freezer building industry. It seamlessly ties together the prefabricated Duro-Last roofing system and additional sections of Duro-Last’s PVC membrane to prevent condensation and ice build-up and consequential problems.

“Before we developed Vapor Armour, builders would use ‘B’ foil set in emulsion, or a peal and stick asphalt membrane, or rubber or spray foam for the vapor barrier,” said Columbia River’s Jay Reid. “This was generally installed by the insulation contractor who would then tie the vapor barrier into the roof system. Little of no regard was taken as to what roof system went with which vapor barrier. Even though the design included using good vapor barriers and good roofing systems, they just didn’t work together.”

“The temperature of a freezer building can go from 80 degrees to 20 below, which puts tremendous stress on the roof-to-wall juncture where the vapor barrier ties into the roofing system,” Reid continued. “Using Duro-Last membrane material for both of these areas withstands the pressure imposed on this critical juncture.”

The elasticity of the membrane allows for adequate expansion and contraction during building movement. The material for the roofing system and the vapor barrier are the same, preventing separation of these two components.

“Vapor Armour is truly a better mouse trap” said David Gattutio, Facilities Director for Food Services of America. “We battle ice build up, condensation and rot for years with a conventional roof and vapor barrier system. No more!”

In addition to quantifiable energy savings and infrared testing as proof positive to the effectiveness of Vapor Armour projects installed to-date, the roofing system is backed by Duro-Last’s industry leading 15-year No Dollar Limit warranty.

“Columbia River Roofing is one of our Elite-level contractors,” said Duro-Last Vice President of Western Operations, Tim Hart. “Not only do they install the Duro-Last roofing system with tremendous attention to quality, the fact that they’ve developed the Vapor Armour system shows that they are truly customer-focused, continually looking for unique solutions to their customers’ roofing problems.”

Columbia River Roofing, Gresham, Oregon, was established in April of 1996 with one goal in mind, to provide their customers with the most advanced roofing systems available in the market. In partnership with the Duro-Last Corporation, Columbia River Roofing developed a revolutionary vapor barrier/roof system – Vabor Armour™.
