Family fun takes center stage at Space & Aviation Day hosted by Bradley Family Day, Inc. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks as well as The New England Air Museum (located at 36 Perimeter Road at Bradley Airport) and the Bradley Air National Guard Base (located at 100 Nicholson Road in East Granby). Now in its eleventh year, this free event attracts thousands of attendees with static aircraft displays, live demonstrations, space exploration activities, music, entertainment, games, contests and more. The Space Race 5K is held at 8am. Event proceeds benefit Connecticut’s own Hole in the Wall Gang Camp founded by Paul Newman to support children with serious illnesses. Parking is free and free shuttle buses are available to visit the three clustered venues.

Bradley Family Day, Inc. is a nonprofit group of volunteers whose work is centered in and around Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Each year, the organization raises funds in support of its charity of choice, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, through Space & Aviation Day and other events including the Not-So-Snooty Wine and Cheese Tasting Event held in November.

“We look forward to bringing in a host of attractions this year to entertain adults and children as well as those with a special interest in aviation,” says Kathy Maznicki, Bradley Family Day President.

The Space Race 5K is held on the runway at the Air National Guard Base when runners feel the exciting rumble of departing aircraft as they run. The Space Race continues along off-airport roadways and finishes back at the Base where food and entertainment are provided. Register for the race at http://www.spaceandaviation.org.

Collaborating organizations include the Connecticut Air National Guard, New England Air Museum, and the Connecticut Fire Academy. Pratt & Whitney is the Presenting Sponsor of the event.
