iTrinegy announces an enhanced security update for its award winning AppQoS networked application performance and usage monitoring product that now incorporates a security module that will enable companies to gather information on what happens when users log-in to, or, access files on Microsoft Windows domains and file servers or access the web.
Until now when issues have occurred in these areas it has been very difficult to pinpoint who or what has caused the problem. This new update not only identifies networked application performance problems but also enables a complete picture on who is doing what.
Frank Puranik, Product Director at iTrinegy said “One of our largest customers is already using the security aspect of AppQoS. They had a number of issues that they needed to address, all of which revolved around how their external network links were being utilized. They needed to know which applications were using their external network links and who was responsible for that data. They also had other issues regarding which files were being accessed on their own internal file servers and also which web sites were being visited including the content or media that was being downloaded.”
AppQoS solutions are unique as they are a one-stop-shop and addresses customers who need an overview of their security and application performance requirements so having only one place to go to understand all of the current issues can be a real asset.
AppQoS products enable clients to monitor bandwidth and see who within their organisation is accessing which servers, which files on that server, which server the person was authenticating against (which can be vital to ensure that no rogue authentication servers have entered a network) and how much data is being passed over the network as a result.
iTrinegy has clients world-wide and recently a client using the AppQoS Security module found that unauthorised users were accessing sensitive data, files that should not have been accessed. By using the new enhanced security module they were able to find out who was accessing the sensitive data and to take the appropriate measures to stop this. At the same time they were able to monitor incoming traffic to ensure that their own firewalls had not been breached.
In conclusion Frank says “With the growth of fraud across the WAN, there are some canny criminals who spend a lot of time trying to find ways of accessing company data and there is a responsibility on security divisions to really understand what is going on within the network. The applications used by staff within the work place can be a potential security risk. Application performance and usage monitoring tools like AppQoS will provide valuable user activity data, and unlike sniffers they do this at a level that is quick and concise, allowing you to quickly ascertain who is doing what, and allowing you to rapidly judge whether or not there is a security implication.”
iTrinegy AppQoS products are centred around a powerful and versatile Networked Applications Monitoring and Reporting system that allows you to take a “20,000ft” view of activity, then drill-down to analyze and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, and other problems. Now with its enhanced security around windows networking and http, AppQoS will also have great appeal to security specialists as well.
