Ovo Logger 7.0 brings powerful data visualization and video processing tools to the domains of user centered design and user research. This .NET release of Ovo Logger software is based on 12 years of feedback from the usability research profession and supports user research at the enterprise level.

Ovo Studios announces the release of Ovo Logger 7.0, the much anticipated update of its enterprise observational logging and reporting software. This new version represents close collaboration between Ovo Studios and its usability professional clients.

“One of the nice things about working with usability professionals is that their feature requests are usually right on the money and can be integrated into the software with relative ease,” said Ovo Studios principal Scott Butler. “We spent a lot of time working with our clients to co-discover what they’d like to see in this new release.”

Existing Ovo Logger users will notice a sleeker, more intuitive user interface that wraps several brand new features. The new Video Timeline gives usability researchers concurrent views of multiple event timelines, making trend discovery and usability defect identification easier. Unlimited user demographics allow researchers to calculate metrics such as task time and success based on the characteristics of a group of users. The new Highlight Reel Generator allows researchers to combine multiple video highlights into a single file and add voiceovers, transitions and title slides. Charts and graphs have been included to give key stakeholders a graphical view of test findings.

“The power of Ovo Logger has always been its analysis and reporting capabilities. It’s still unmatched in analysis, and we’ve added quite a bit to the ability to produce finished reports straight from the software,” said Butler.

Ovo Logger 7.0 is built from the ground up on the .NET framework, thereby eliminating the need to install dependencies such as IIS (Internet Information Services) in order to deploy user questionnaires and allow remote observers to access the study.

“One trend we’ve noticed is the increased security measures our clients’ IT departments have implemented in response to external and internal threats to IT security,” said Ovo Studios’ principal and lead developer Rich Gunther. “Using the .NET framework should allow Ovo Logger clients to continue to enjoy Ovo Logger’s streaming capabilities without having to request concessions from their IT group.”

In addition to analysis and reporting enhancements, Ovo Logger 7.0 also features an optional Multiplexed recording technology which allows researchers to merge up to eight independent video sources into a single video file. Researchers have total control over the layout of the merged video, including positioning, layering, opacity, and captioning. “We’ve eliminated the need for expensive hardware components to create multiplexed video,” said Gunther. Researchers who do not use the Multiplexed option will still be able to record up to eight independent video sources in separate WMV files.

Ovo Logger is an a la carte product, meaning that Ovo Studios’ personnel will work with potential clients to assess their needs and recommend the software features that will meet them. For more information about Ovo Logger 7.0, please visit http://www.ovostudios.com/ovologger.asp.
