Paradigm Sample™ today announced the findings from its MobilePulse™ Travel Study, a mobile study of Smartphone users conducted June 2010. Paradigm Sample™ is driving innovation with their MobilePulse™ offering, a real-time data collection capability.
The study focused on understanding how consumers use their Smartphone for travel. Specifically the study found that consumers who fall into higher income ($75,000 and above) and higher education (college graduate or above) segments desired the availability of Air focused Smartphone applications (eg Continental Airlines or Southwest application) while others preferred general travel related applications (eg Orbitz or Expedia). When asked about what specifically they wanted to use Air applications for higher income travelers presented a business traveler profile preferring Flight Status, Check-in, Boarding Pass and Seat Assignments while others preferred Flight Status and Air Fare Searching, a person more in line with leisure travel. Interestingly, iPhone users wanted to use their phone more broadly than other phones preferring both Air and General Travel Services.
The MobilePulse™ Travel Study is another example of Paradigm Sample™’s continued focus towards innovative frontiers around data collection. Especially interesting was that although a number of these capabilities exist and are provided by Airlines, respondents talked more about their desire for these capabilities versus their current usage of them. While the results of the study show that there is an appetite to consume Travel Services on the Smartphone it also showed that there is an opportunity to build awareness among consumers and professionals of what already exists out there.
