During the month of August, Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland will be celebrating the talent and creativity of Michael Jackson. The King of Pop would have been 52 years old in August. In honor of his impact on younger performers, Ride or Die Records of Chicago and the Fluid Charitable Trust, Inc. an Indiana non-profit, will host the MJFanvention Star contest, August 14 at 7 p.m. at the Regal Theatre in Chicago, IL.

“The MJFanvention Star competition is about honoring Michael Jackson while giving young talent an opportunity to perform in a great venue,” said Mickel Henderson, contest coordinator. The Jackson 5 performed at the original Regal Theater in Chicago in 1965.

The host for the event will be the multi-talented R&B singer/song writer Willie Taylor. He is best known as a member of the singing group Day 26.

Contestants for the MJFanvention Star competition were selected from three auditions held in Chicago, Gary and Joliet. The top contestants will perform a Michael Jackson or Jackson 5 song during the performance on August 14 at the Regal Theatre in Chicago. The top six finalists will go on to perform on August 29 during the MJFanvention2010 in Gary, IN -- the home town of Michael Jackson. The winner will receive cash, an appearance on Chicago TV, an overnight stay in a Chicago luxury hotel, the opportunity to record a song with Ride or Die records.

“I think Willie is the perfect person to host this talent competition. He knows what it is like to compete for your dream. We are pleased to have someone of Willie Taylor’s talent to be a part of this,” said Henderson.

Taylor, a Chicago native, was part of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ MTV Show “Making The Band”. He ultimately emerged as one of the few chosen to create the multi-talented group “Day 26”. “Making The Band” became the highest rated show in MTV history, resulting in Day 26 staying on for three more seasons. Day 26 has released two albums to date, selling over 600,000 units and both topping the charts at #1.

Collectively, Taylor and his band-mates are recipients of numerous honors including: A BET Music Award for Best Male Group, an AMA Nomination, and a NAACP Image Award Nomination. Day 26 has released two albums to date, selling over 600,000 units and both topping the charts at #1.
