Q2 Mobile Social Graph Report: mobile social network’s members getting younger, mobile session times increasing
MocoSpace, the leading mobile social network in the U.S., today announces the release of its latest Mobile Social Graph Report. The report highlights data on how user habits differ on various device types, including PCs, traditional feature phones and Android and iPhone.
The findings from the Q2 Mobile Social Graph show that both iPhone and Android traffic has risen significantly during the quarter. Android shows the strongest quarterly traffic growth, a 73% surge in Q2, while iPhone users follow close behind, showing 67% growth. Blackberry traffic was down 2.8% since Q1, while traditional feature phone traffic declined by 10% in Q2.
The report also reveals that MocoSpace members, unlike those of other major social networks, are actually trending younger, averaging 25.1 years, down 1.5 years from Q1. According to a February 2010 report by Royal Pingdom, the average MySpace user is 31 while the average Facebook user is 38, and Twitter coming in at 39.
Other key findings in Q2:
· The 19-24 age group grew the most, rising by 5% in Q2
· Hispanics are the fastest growing demographic on the site
· iPhone/Android sessions were 15 minutes, 51 seconds, an increase of 13.2% in Q2
· Overall average session length across all devices is 16 minutes, 20 seconds, up 6% from Q1
· iPhone / Android chat over-indexed by 38% in Q2 as the company introduced applications for both platforms
A recent report by Ground Truth confirms the trend toward longer MocoSpace session times; the report showed that MocoSpace users spend more minutes per day on MocoSpace than they do on either Facebook Mobile or MySpace Mobile.
“In Q2, we were very pleased to see strong growth coming from Android and iPhone users,” says MocoSpace CEO Justin Siegel. “With the upcoming release of our gaming platform targeting smartphones, we feel the mobile web will only get stronger as more powerful phones enable more robust mobile browser experiences.”
