Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) August 2, 2010
While many students perfected their cannon balls and ollies, uBoost members spent part of their summer sharpening their academic skills. uBoost, an award-winning online student performance recognition and rewards platform, reflected on initial reports measuring student engagement over the summer which set new records and goals for the upcoming academic year.
Students earn rewards primarily by completing assignments and performing well on assessments. To keep students engaged, prizes are also awarded randomly. Every day, students receive their chance to win premium rewards like gift certificates from retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, and Footlocker, or electronics such as game systems and MP3 players. In the first few weeks of July alone, twenty lucky winners received the latest Kodak HD video recorder just by logging in.
When asked how they felt when they found out they won a digital video camera, many students were surprised to have won and were excited to use the camera to document their summer with their friends and family. When asked what he liked about the program the most, Steven, a student from South Abington Township, PA replied, “I like the daily spin the most because it can earn kids something even if they don’t have many points. All they have to do is log on and do the spin.” A parent of a student from St. Louis, MO, says that her daughter “loves logging into her account and keeping track of her points. Seeing all the gifts that she can win makes her strive to do better, to earn more points. It gives her a goal to shoot for….”
Tangible rewards are not the only drivers of positive student behavior. Students earn badges based on their point awards and site activity. There are currently over seventy different badges that students can earn and the list is growing. Members also measure success relative to their peers by viewing each other’s experience levels and leader board status.
“While it’s important for students to lead balanced lives and enjoy the summer break, it is encouraging to see some of that time focused on academic improvement”, says John Bower, CEO of uBoost. “Delivering relevant and consistent feedback reinforces a learner’s self confidence and boosts their desire to work harder to achieve their goals.”
As part of uBoost’s continuing commitment to enable relevant recognition, students (13 years and older) can now have their achievements automatically shared with their friends and relatives through the new Facebook integration. As students level up, earn points and badges their parents and friends will be alerted so they can offer their own congratulations.
