"Look, up in the sky!"
"It's a bird."
"It's a plane."
"It's . . . The Flying Elvi – ten of them?!"
Anyone remotely familiar with the Superman TV series of the 1950s starring George Reeves certainly remembers those four lines that were part of the introduction to every episode. OK, so the fourth line is altered a little bit…but there's good reason.
The Flying Elvi will be parachuting into the Carson Valley Inn parking lot shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, August 9 – weather permitting, of course. During their descent (which will not be faster than a speeding bullet), you will be able to look up into the sky and, like the Superman episodes of old, watch from many places throughout the Carson Valley metropolis. But, while Superman was a single man of steel, the Flying Elvi are ten men in white costumes and long sideburns – all Elvis impersonators. Superman had powers and abilities far beyond mortal men. The Flying Elvi are definitely just mortal men, but they are Super Showmen.
The Flying Elvi skydiving team was first featured in the hit movie “Honeymoon in Vegas.” They combine a spine tingling aerial skydiving performance of smoke trails and precision maneuvers with an entertaining post-landing show. So, whether you're looking up in the sky from the Carson Valley Inn, or as far away as the Daily Planet (really The Record Courier), you'll definitely be able to watch the Flying ELVI as they float down to earth for their post-landing show in the CVI parking lot followed by a short appearance in the Cabaret Lounge.
The Monday evening performance by the Flying Elvi kicks off the Carson Valley Inn's 26th Birthday Celebration. The festivities continue on Tuesday, August 10 when INN Club members will earn triple points (3X) all day. INN Club card play on August 10 will also qualify members for regular drawings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for helicopter rides for two (weather permitting) the same day from the Carson Valley Inn parking lot - a total of 12 rides will be given away. Free cake and champagne will be served in the casino from 2 to 3 p.m. and again from 7 to 8 p.m. The birthday celebration will cap off with special birthday cash drawings at both 6 and 8 p.m.
For your Elvi spotting or any other time of year, Carson Valley offers a variety of lodging and recreational activities for your enjoyment.
