Republican Congressional candidate Steve Moak proposed a Contract with Republican Leadership today, inviting freshman Republican congressmen to hold themselves accountable for delivering specific results. Steve Moak’s complete statement follows:

“The incoming class of Republican freshman promises to be the largest, most influential group of newly-elected representatives in years. Because of our numbers, we can have a disproportionate influence over what happens in Congress.

It is therefore essential that we stick together as a class and ensure that our leadership fulfills the wishes of the voters who will be sending us to Washington.

To that end, I propose we use our strength to insist on the following set of specific commitments from our leadership on priority issues the American electorate is demanding we address:

1.)    Pass a budget that contains real spending cuts and puts our country on a sound fiscal path to eliminate the federal budget deficit within six years.

2.)    Vote against any immigration reform proposal until Congress provides the necessary resources to state and federal agencies to effectively secure the U.S. border with Mexico.

3.)    Enact a pro small business economic package of lower taxes and regulatory reforms to accelerate economic recovery.

4.)    Extend the Republican-backed moratorium on earmarks. No earmarks for the next two years of the Congress. No exceptions.

5.)    Within the first year, vote on repealing the Obama administration’s health care reform legislation and replace it with market-oriented solutions that will actually expand choices for American citizens and reduce health care costs.

6.)    Provide real transparency to the American people by refusing to vote on any bill until the entire bill has been posted on the Internet for all Americans to read. We must oppose any legislative tricks and will oppose any rule or bill that Americans have not had the opportunity to review. No exceptions.

7.)     Develop a plan for moving to a flat tax for citizens and a lower corporate income tax for businesses.

We’re going to win this election. Let’s prove to the American people that we can and will hold our selves to a higher level of accountability and results. As freshmen, we will use this opportunity to ensure our party presents the American public with an agenda of real solutions and action items.

We will have a government that does far fewer things, but does them better.”
