We are going to look at things in an entirely different way, we're going to shrink the government and make it better. We know it can work because we've seen it work in government already.
Bellingham, WA (PRWEB) August 23, 2010
Former US Senate candidate Paul Akers announced yesterday the launch of Lean America, a new non-profit organization whose goal is to transform government by empowering people through lean business principles. Lean principles are successfully working for Harley-Davidson, Seattle Children's Hospital, Jacksonville Sheriff's Department and thousands of other public and private organizations.
"We cannot accept the notion that government can continue to grow while the quality of services it provides is either stagnant or decreasing. When a citizen encounters a government organization like the DMV, or the Post Office, it should be a Starbucks experience. There is no difference in the capacity of the people in either the public or private sector. The difference is leadership and vision.”
Akers will teach, speak, and consult with government agencies and political candidates desiring to implement lean principles.
"We are going to look at things in an entirely different way, we're going to shrink the government and make it better. We know it can work because we've seen it work in government already. Lean is fun. Empowering people at the shop floor level to solve problems every day will create a culture of continuous improvement. We should be able to open our newspaper and the headlines should read, 'Taxes down. Quality of service up, full employment.' This is what can happen with competent leadership and this is what the lean model will deliver.”
Lean America will function as a 527 non-profit organization and consult and train with local, state, and federal agencies.
"Government is in crisis – we have the answer. If they would like our help, we're here to show them a better way.”
