Bowen Island, BC entrepreneur Elena Verlee, one of Forbes.com’s “20 Women for Entrepreneurs to follow on Twitter” will be giving a seminar on using publicity to grow your business at the upcoming ThinkBiz 2010 conference on September 9th and 10th at Whatcom Community College’s Heiner Center. The conference is hosted by Western Washington University’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Whatcom Community College as an opportunity to offer businesses affordable opportunity to learn more skills to help their businesses stabilize and grow.
Verlee is founder of a successful, 12-year old international PR firm that works with technology clients to promote them in the US, Canada and the UK. She has been called “a brand building bad-ass” by the editor of Entrepreneur Magazine and her blog is going to be syndicated by the VisaBusinessNetwork.com to its community of 100,000+ small business members.
As an entrepreneur herself, Verlee has built a 7-figure business from home. In 2007, she also co-founded a quirky online business that generated huge media attention, garnered thousands of dollars in sales, achieved profitability in the first quarter and attracted a buyer for the company for six-figures – in just nine months. Her blog, PRinYourPajamas.com has been named in Guy Kawasaki’s Alltop PR blogs.
Thursday’s keynote address will be presented by Vancouver, B.C. entrepreneurs and speakers Judy Thompson and Gayle Hallgren-Rezac of Sherpa Learning Company. They have also authored the book Work the Pond, given to the first 250 registrations for the conference. Guy Kawasaki has called their definition of networking, “the world’s best networking definition”.
Judy is a chartered accountant and vice-chair of The Vancouver Board of Trade’s Women’s Leadership Circle® advisory council. She sits on the board of directors of the BC Women’s Enterprise Centre, and is a director of a publicly-traded mining exploration company. She was also part of the start-up management team of the world-famous Rocky Mountaineer Railtours.
Gayle is the founder of Cookies by George, and a YWCA Woman of Distinction.
