Beach Village Developers Embrace Jekyll Island's Natural Beauty

Developers Discussed Design Concepts amongst Nature Backdrop

Jekyll Island, GA (PRWEB) August 30, 2010

Developers working with the Jekyll Island Authority (JIA) on the new Beach Village project met Friday to discuss shared values and become immersed in the island's natural areas and overall brand platform.

Representatives from Phelps Development of Greeley, Colorado, as well as Winding Road Development, LLC from Scottsdale, Arizona, and the owners of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, joined JIA senior staff and project architect HHCP in an ecological tour of the island.

“It’s crucial that everyone involved in the revitalization process understand our commitment to conserving Jekyll Island’s most important asset – our natural resources,” said Jones Hooks, Executive Director of the JIA. “We are convinced our development partners share a special appreciation for Jekyll Island and its natural beauty, and our activities on Friday were designed to reinforce the significance of Jekyll’s natural assets. Having development partners that share Jekyll’s values is extremely important to us.”

The group spent the day discussing their design concepts for the Beach Village aboard
eco-friendly Red Bug cars and experienced the areas wildlife habitat first-hand with birding expert Lydia Thompson.

“All of us understood that our plans had to be tailored to meet the design guidelines set forth by the Jekyll Island Authority,” said Connie Wynne, partner of Winding Road Development. “But now, I believe we are walking away from today with a greater appreciation as to why.”

Located in the heart of Jekyll Island, the Beach Village will consist of nearly 30 shops and restaurants as well as 60 lofts. Three new beachfront hotels, a new convention center and a revamped Great Dunes Park are all a part of the revitalization plan. Construction is scheduled to be completed by 2012.
