You probably haven't given much thought to Old Man Winter yet this year. But for recently engaged brides and grooms with a 4 to 6 month wedding planning timeline, their nuptials are likely to fall in the heart of winter. For many couples in the Northeast or Midwest, this limits the possibilities for an outdoor wedding - one reason winter destination weddings have become so popular in recent years.
In response to this trend, Simple Weddings, a St Petersburg, Florida company offering all-inclusive beach and outdoor wedding packages on Florida's Gulf Coast beaches, has instituted a "Wonderful Winter Wedding" discount. Couples who opt for a wedding from November through February and book one of the company's all inclusive beach wedding packages receive 10% off their package.
Owner Claire Copeland says this discount can amount to hundreds of dollars. "We realize our brides and grooms from out of state have other expenses associated with their wedding like airfare and lodging, and this is our way of trying to offer a little relief on our prices during our slower months" says Copeland. She adds, "Florida is a lovely place to get married outdoors during the winter. There's a reason it's called the Sunshine State. Our winters are very mild and it's not unheard of for us to have 80 degree weather and run the air conditioner occasionally during the winter months!"
Copeland says temperatures can occasionally dip below 50 degrees during cold snaps, but she says most of her winter clients, who are frequently from the Northeast and Midwest, as well as Canada and the UK, find even those temperatures a welcome relief from the much colder conditions back home.
