Which college has the most passionate fans? The answer may come September 3 as people nationwide celebrate the tradition and spirit of the college experience on the fifth annual College Colors Day.

Gainesville, Florida-based collegiate sportswear company Pennington and Bailes wants to help Southeast Conference (SEC) fans display their school pride southern-style. The company is known for its brightly-colored fabrics adorned with embroidered logos and is launching several new lines of clothing and accessories to coincide with College Colors Day. A registered participant of the event, Pennington and Bailes is also offering a 20% discount for online purchases made between August 30, 2010 and September 5, 2010 (enter coupon code COLLEGECOLORSDAY at penningtonandbailes.com).

“Southerners take college football seriously and dress the part in bold style on game day. We want to help fans display that same passion on College Colors Day,” said Tygh Bailes, co-founder of Pennington & Bailes.

Bailes and co-founder Mel Pennington came up with the idea for their unique clothing line while tailgating at a University of South Carolina (USC) football game in 2003. “I was wearing a pair of logoed pants that stopped fellow fans dead in their tracks,” said Bailes. “Mel and I realized we could take the tried-and-true preppy look to a new level, filling a void for really well-made clothes that are fun to wear.”

Today, the company – which started with licenses from the University of Georgia, University of South Carolina and Clemson – represents nearly 50 colleges and universities in the U.S., including all twelve schools in the SEC.

“Our clothing line is Southern-collegiate chic,” said Bailes. “With our new product line, football fans can show their team spirit on College Colors Day and all football season long with clothes that make a fashion statement. You’re guaranteed to get a reaction when you’re wearing a pair of our pants.”

Several colleges and states in the southeast have already announced their participation in College Colors Day, including the University of South Carolina, Arkansas and Georgia.
