Kiaron Finnegan wrote Mr. Loaded over a three year period when he was supposed to be writing scripts for programmes like ITV’s Loose Women. A story about a lottery winner, he sent the manuscript to agents and publishers without any luck. The launch of the iPad spurred him on to look for other ways of getting his book sold.
He found a developer who published the book as an App in return for a share of the profits. Being part of the revolution in publishing, Mr Loaded was on iTunes within three weeks as App in its own right and on the iBookstore.
Finnegan believes that iTunes allows new authors to break through who would not normally get the chance. ‘No matter how good your work may be, it’s almost impossible for new authors to get published. Turning a book into an App means the costs normally associated with printing books aren’t there thus making the risk more viable.’
Although still not having a publishing deal for the physical book, he plans to publish his second novel in the same way.
