Healthy – and truly sustainable – growth across its UK sites network is reported today by The Caravan Club, and bookings look set to rise for the remainder of the season and beyond. An extra half a million ‘bed nights’ enjoyed by caravanners wanting to stay on home ground in 2009, is followed by 2010 being yet another record-breaking year for bookings.
2010 year-to-date figures show a massive 4.9 million ‘bed nights’ have been enjoyed on The Caravan Club sites network.
Nick Lomas, Director General of The Caravan Club commented: “There are a number of factors at play when people choose to holiday closer to home, and in most cases it has absolutely nothing to do with the weather! Last year the economic situation may have dissuaded holidaymakers from venturing too far afield, but having enjoyed their 2009 holiday, more and more people are discovering just what the UK, and caravanning, has to offer in terms of a great holiday experience – and happy memories.”
Another factor in pitch demand may be the £100 million The Club has spent over the last nine years on its site network, offering desirable surroundings in a wide range of locations, from the outskirts of cities to completely rural idylls, and from remote National Park uplands, to bustling seaside resorts, exampled by the caravan parks in Cornwall.
Lomas adds, “Once you have decided to invest in a caravan or motor caravan, it’s so easy to get out there and enjoy it as much as you can. Our sites can offer every amenity if that’s what you want, but you can also stay on one of our small Certificated Locations from as little as £5 a night – that’s for the whole family – leaving enough in the pocket to sample the local attractions.”
The cheap caravan holidays heyday of the 1970s may have suffered when package tours to sunnier climes tempted the UK holidaymaker abroad, but it seems the scales have well and truly tipped back in favour of hitching up and exploring our green and pleasant land.
