Dennis Tufano's "As Long As I'm Singing The Music of Bobby Darin" show is a tip of the hat to the musical genius of the late Bobby Darin.

Chicago’s own Dennis Tufano’s highly acclaimed show “As Long As I’m Singing,” kicks off The Raue Center’s new season in Crystal Lake, Ill., on Saturday, September 18, 2010. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are priced from $44-$50.

“As Long As I’m Singing” is a tip of the hat tribute to the music of Bobby Darin. During the show, Tufano transports the audience through the many musical genres that encompassed Darin’s short but meteoric career, from rock and roll to jazz and blues to folk and country, and finally, Darin’s Las Vegas nightclub standards.

Tufano is the original voice of the 1960s group, The Buckinghams, the 2009 Hit Parade Hall of Fame inductees, whose hits include the #1 “Kind of A Drag,” “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song,” “Don’t You Care?” “Susan,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” and others.

“Long before I was the original lead singer of The Buckinghams, I was listening to Bobby Darin’s ‘Dream Lover’ on the car radio,” says Tufano. “The inspiration I felt then, listening to this dynamic entertainer, opened up the possibility to me that I could become a singer too.” This inspiration and passion for Bobby Darin’s music are evident in Tufano’s tribute to his muse.

Backed by a nine-piece band and three backup singers, Tufano covers such Darin classics as the show’s title song, “As Long As I’m Singing,” “Splish Splash,” “My Funny Valentine,” “If I Were A Carpenter,” Darin’s signature song, “Mack the Knife,” and many more. The engaging three-act, 90-minute show provides a comprehensive look at Darin’s musical catalog.

“It was Bobby Darin’s unique performance style along with his songs and impressive signature arrangements that inspired me to put together this show,” says Tufano.

Also appearing in the show is comedian Tim Walkoe, Grand Prize winner on “America’s Funniest People.” Grammy winner Michael Acosta, former musical director for the Brian Setzer Orchestra, provides the show’s musical supervision, with direction by Ernie Lane.

Tufano is an energetic, vibrant and multi-faceted entertainer. Over the years, Tufano’s enthusiastic quest to entertain has prompted him to appear in films, TV, commercials and to do voiceover work and theater. He has created, directed and produced documentary films. He performed with Olivia Newton-John in her HBO special, dueting with her on “You’re The One That I Want,” and “Suddenly.” He tours continuously, bringing the music of Bobby Darin to eager audiences across the country.
