Twenty-five years ago Art Pfeiffer, President of ThwartPoker Inc., had a radical idea for a fundamentally different approach to card playing. For centuries all card games including poker were based on randomly dealt cards through shuffling. His idea was to replace the randomness of shuffling with player card selection.
ThwartPoker’s games are the application of this skill-based concept to poker. Instead of cards being randomly dealt, players privately and simultaneously select the cards they want from the same face up deck of cards. When conflicts in card selection arise, players are dealt a thwart card instead of the card they selected. This thwart card has no value and does not contribute to the player’s final poker hand.
An earlier version of ThwartPoker for mobile phones achieved great success and critical acclaim, and two next-generation apps available now in the iTunes App Store bring this innovative gameplay to Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch. In Hold’em Blitz®, players select cards to build a winning poker hand before time runs out. In Hold’em Battle™, players select cards while betting and bluffing their way to victory. These games are a compelling blend of poker, chess and puzzle-solving that can even help traditional poker players improve their poker games.
Both apps are free and will introduce new players to ThwartPoker gameplay. An in-app purchase in each app unlocks the full game, featuring tournament games against an increasing number of computer-controlled opponents, practice sessions, saved games and high score tracking.
Hold’em Battle™ and Hold’em Blitz® will appeal to poker and non-poker players of all ages, skills and abilities. It’s poker with a twist, and available now in the iTunes App Store.
