San Carlos, CA (PRWEB) September 1, 2010
Aster Data, a proven leader dedicated to providing the best data management and data processing platform for big data analytics, today announced they have been named as a 2011 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. Aster Data joins an exclusive group of award recipients including Google, Mozilla, PayPal and Twitter.
Tasso Argyros, CTO and co-founder of Aster Data said, “It’s great recognition for everyone at Aster Data because from the moment the company was founded, our technology vision has always been to deliver solutions which lead the field of big data management and advanced analytics which help our clients improve customer service and sustain competitive advantage. And for Aster Data to be recognized as a Technology Pioneer by such a globally renowned organisation as the World Economic Forum is a great honour for all of our team.”
The identification of the Technology Pioneer companies is the result of a vigorous selection process, for which the Forum received more than 330 applications from around the world, and that were evaluated by 68 global technology experts resulting in only 31 companies being represented in the award. This year, the Forum received the widest range ever of country of origin, with 13 countries represented: Australia, Canada, India, Israel, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Nigeria, People’s Republic of China, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
“The World Economic Forum is proud to recognize an outstanding group of innovative companies as Technology Pioneers for 2011,” said André Schneider, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of the World Economic Forum. “Their technologies and business models will have a durable and valuable effect in several industries and society as a whole. We look forward to their unique contributions to the mission of the Forum: improving the state of the world.”
To be selected as a Technology Pioneer, a company must be involved in the development of a major technology and/or innovation and have the potential for long-term impact on business and society. In addition, it must demonstrate visionary leadership and show all the signs of being a long-standing and sustainable market leader – and its technology must be proven.
Don Watters, MySpace chief data architect commented “It’s no surprise to the team at MySpace that Aster Data have won this award. Their innovative approach has enabled them to create industry-leading data analytics solutions like SQL-MapReduce, which has allowed us to manage our ever-growing mountain of customer data while uncovering the business intelligence to help drive our organization forward. Along with Aster Data’s ability to produce unique solutions like SQL-MapReduce, their willingness to work closely with MySpace has enabled us to tailor solutions for big data analysis which others in their sector simply couldn’t have delivered.”
