In creating the SpiderOak Open License program, we are able to provide bulk accounts to institutions including colleges and universities. We feel SpiderOak Open License is a great fit for organizations interested in maintaining individual user privacy.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 1, 2010
In its first move toward a ‘group’ oriented product, SpiderOak today announced the release of SpiderOak Open License – a way for institutions such as schools, colleges, corporations and research centers to purchase and manage large numbers of user accounts. Open License allows a central administrator to view high-level information on each account (including name, contact information, amount of data stored), create new accounts as needed, and remove accounts as necessary. Similar to SpiderOak’s operation currently, each account retains ‘zero-knowledge’ privacy such that the data backed up, synced, and accessed remains viewable only by the given user.
“We had been getting more and more inquiries about a product that could retain our zero-knowledge privacy while still allow for bulk purchases” says SpiderOak CEO Ethan Oberman. “In working hand-in-hand with our first few Open License customers, we designed the solution to work either through the admin interface we provide or through our Open License API designed to integrate easily with an institution's current processes.”
SpiderOak Open License is sold in blocks of 10 accounts up to 250 users and then blocks of 50 thereafter. The product can accommodate an unlimited number of end users. Given SpiderOak’s deference to academia, the company will offer increased discounts to schools, colleges, and universities.
