Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) September 13, 2010
Green & Seifter, Attorneys, PLLC is excited to announce the "Natural Wonders of Central New York" photography contest for Syracuse and Onondaga County High School Students in grades 9 through 12. The idea for this year's contest was inspired by the upcoming Haudenosaunee: Elements, a special exhibition of new work by 12 contemporary Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) artists that will be shown at the Everson Museum of Art November 13, 2010 through January 16, 2011. Young artists in Onondaga County will have the opportunity to express their impressions of the natural beauty of our city and region through photography.
Students are encouraged to capture the natural beauty of Central New York, local and regional examples of natural sculptures, organic and natural imagery, environments and living things, and abstract interpretations of nature. The works should reflect an appreciation of environmental awareness. Students do not need to be enrolled in a visual arts class to enter.
The contest is open to all Onondaga County high school students in grade 9 through 12. Entries will be judged on composition, creativity, and effectiveness in capturing the essence of natural beauty in our area. The deadline for entries is October 15, 2010. The selection of the top twenty finalists and grand prize winner will be made by a panel of artists, teachers, and photographers. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship and have his/her photo featured on the 2010 Green & Seifter, Attorneys,PLLC Thanksgiving card. A special section on the card will highlight the young artist. In addition, a $500 donation will be made to the winning school's visual art department to be used for further art education.
During the week of October 25, there will be a gallery showing of the top twenty entries. A reception is planned for finalists and their families and teachers on Thursday, October 28, at which time the winning photo will be announced.
