Fitness Formula Clubs (ffc.com,) a Chicago-based company that owns, develops and operates full service fitness clubs, raised $15,000 towards Augie’s Quest from a two-week fundraiser that took place at their nine club locations in late June.

This is FFC’s third year participating in Augie’s Quest. Since 2008, FFC has raised and donated over $85,000 to benefit the local Chicago Muscular Dystrophy Association in conjunction with Augie’s Quest. All money raised goes towards the funding and research of ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. It is an expensive disease to treat, and every minute of laboratory research towards ALS costs $75.

Augie’s Quest is named after Augie Nieto, the founder of Life Fitness® (the world’s largest fitness equipment manufacturer), and a friend of thousands in the fitness industry nationwide. Diagnosed with ALS in 2005, Augie went on to write his own book, Augie’s Quest, and founded Augie’s Quest solely to raise funds for this nerve degenerating disease. To date, Augie’s Quest has raised over $23 million by partnering with health clubs and affiliates nationwide.

To raise funds, FFC held special exercise classes where members donated a fee to participate in dance classes, racquetball tournaments, and spin-a-thons. Personal Trainers donated training sessions to any member that gave $75 toward the cause, and a company-wide raffle was held with prizes contributed by FFC vendors. During the month of June, FFC also donated $10 for every new membership to Augie’s Quest and the company’s founder and CEO, Gale Landers, matched any employee donation dollar for dollar. Finally, a fundraising event was held atop the roof at FFC’s newest location at 939 W. North Avenue on June 30 where members enjoyed food, drinks, entertainment, and bid on silent auction items, including a Life Fitness home treadmill!

As a result of these efforts FFC has been asked by the Chicago MDA to participate in the 45th annual Jerry Lewis Telethon on Labor Day, Monday, September 6. Televised by WGN Channel 9, an FFC representative will present a large cardboard copy of the check to the MDA in front of a live studio audience. This is FFC’s third year participating in the telethon.
