At the tender age of 15, Santana Roberts hosted her first “My Purpose Party” ™ in 2009 titled “Locally Grown - Locally Given”, raising over $2,000 and 500 pounds of food for the Exeter/West Greenwich Food Pantries. ("My Purpose Party” is an organization that encourages young people to create a dream party using their talents for a greater purpose in the community.) With success on her side, Santana, now 16, has again teamed with the non-profits “1 of 52 Hunger Network” and “Provisions – End Hunger RI” as well as event producers Verity Design to launch her 2nd annual event.
This year’s “My Purpose Party” is sure to draw enthusiastic crowds with a spectacular night of entertainment featuring Grammy Award winner, Patti Austin. Ms. Austin won a Grammy in 2008 for her recording Avant Gershwin. Santana first came to Ms. Autin's attention when, after hearing A Tribute to Ella, Santana was inspired to write her. Shortly after, Santana found herself spending two exhilarating days in NYC being coached by the legendary singer and they quickly formed a mentor relationship. The highlight of the 2nd annual My Purpose Party, themed "Just A Measure", will be a special duet with Patti and Santana.
The festivities will include four hours of non-stop entertainment by performance artists, dancers and musicians including RI's own high energy band Erik Narwhal and the Manatees. In addition to this great line-up of entertainers, a special focus is placed on supporting local farmers who make nutritious food readily available to the local community. Attendees will be treated to local farmers offering vegetables, cheeses, homemade breads and locally made products. Student and artist works are being showcased in a silent auction along with other exciting prizes.
This is a rare opportunity to experience award winning talent while helping your neighbors through the Rhode Island Community Food Bank who distributed 9.5 million pounds of food to those in need this past year. Join event sponsors Amica Insurance, BankRI, Johnson & Wales University, Whole Foods, Yacht Club Beverages and Hope Artiste Village on September 25th to see the best of Rhode Island come together to make a difference!
