‘Fast, secure, easy’ … three words casino operators welcome hearing from their staff and vendors. Data Financial, Inc., a value added reseller based in Mequon, WI, is making that a reality for casinos throughout the country with the company’s innovative adaptation of the Avery Dennison Model 6039 barcode reader/printer. Branded as the LabelPro Slot Drop Bar Code System, Data Financial has coupled their software and the 6039 hardware to offer casinos a tool to easily and accurately manage the daily task of slot machine balancing, know in the industry as drops.
LabelPro arose from one casino’s request for a system to automate their drop process. Drawing on their background in retail and cash management, Data Financial selected the Avery Dennison Model 6039 as the core hardware for the project, recognizing the durability and reliability of the Avery Dennison product. Together with the Data Financial casino operating system, the product was introduced at the international gaming convention, Global Gaming Expo, and quickly became a popular casino necessity.
As frequently as every night, casinos will move throughout the gaming floor and remove cash from the slot machines. Until LabelPro was introduced, this process typically required that the staff look at the asset tag or serial number of the machine being serviced, record that manually on a slip of paper and attach it to the cash box removed from the machine. With LabelPro, a pre-assigned bar code affixed to each slot machine is scanned with the 6039 and a small label is printed with that bar code and asset number. The label’s unique adhesive qualities enable it to be affixed to the cash box, but removed with ease later on, with no trace of adhesive residue.
Once all of the slot machines are cleared, the cash boxes are removed to a central counting area where the bar code on each container is then re-scanned into the system and the cash counted reconciled with that number. Manual entry errors and the mix-up of hand written slips are eliminated and the entire process becomes automated.
Due to the low cost of owning and deploying, LabelPro, is suitable and recommended for casinos with any number of slot machines. Very large casinos may find it useful to employ multiple systems on the slot floor to complete the drop. Data Financial offers enhancements to LabelPro including SecureDrop and LabelPro DS, software products which offer drop box tracking as well as the ability to monitor and correct cash processing variations which may occur in the count room.
Mohegan Sun, one of the country’s largest casinos, utilizes LabelPro DS to track their high volume of slot boxes from the casino floor through the count process. Based in Uncassville, CT, Mohegan Sun counts on LabelPro DS to quickly identify missing boxes, increase efficiency by returning empty boxes to any machine and access reports valuable to their audit department. “LablePro has reduced our casino variances from 80 a day to less than 5” said Clarence Moore, Countroom Manager at Mohegan Sun. “It is a very cost effective solution for the large amount of machines in our casino and has helped us streamline our processes.”
LabelPro leaves little room for human error. Its handheld ease and portability enable casino staff to reduce the possibility of error when processing large numbers of slot cash boxes. According to James Holtz, Data Financial president, “LabelPro is one of those products that came about through some simple, intuitive problem solving. As a company, we work every day with the cash counting needs of our casino customers. When one of our Midwest casinos was struggling with mixing up cash boxes, we saw this as an opportunity to find a solution. LabelPro debuted as a very low cost and dependable solution to a low-tech problem. It remains low cost and unbelievably effective,” Holtz said.
LabelPro is designed to be a user installed product, immediately operational upon receipt. The typical LabelPro kit includes all Avery Dennison hardware, backup battery, labels and accessories. Data Financial offers product support seven days per week via telephone or on-line interaction and is available for shipment throughout the US.
