TDi Technologies new Virtual Serial Port Concentrator functionality meets important requirements for mission-critical production environments
Plano, TX (PRWEB) September 7, 2010
TDi Technologies, the leader in IT Foundation Management, today announced new capabilities in the ConsoleWorks® ITFM Suite that enables it to meet the most demanding security and compliance requirements of virtual environments using VMware vSphere™ 4.1.
The new functionality in ConsoleWorks for VMware vSphere leverages the Virtual Serial Port functionality in VMware vSphere 4.1 to deliver Virtual Serial Port Concentrator technology that addresses risk and compliance issues with virtual and cloud computing architectures while reducing the cost of managing them. Primarily focused on mission-critical and sensitive-data virtual production environments, these new capabilities extend ConsoleWorks’ ability to secure the most privileged interfaces in the IT infrastructure (subject to high Insider Threat vulnerability) and to meet demanding IT infrastructure change control and configuration compliance requirements.
While virtual and cloud computing architectures are clearly seen as an IT enabler, organizations need to equip themselves to handle new security, compliance, and support concerns. Virtualization, by its very nature, breaks traditional infrastructure practices by enabling applications to “move” from one virtual machine to another, and by enabling virtual machines to move from one physical host to another.
“To maintain a high-level of infrastructure security, you have to know where applications and virtual machines are – I mean the physical host computer they are on and the location of that host. You also have to know where they have been,” stated Dave North, TDi Technologies VP of Engineering. “For compliance purposes, you also have to have auditable records per application and per VM. If you can’t tie all these pieces or logs together into an auditable forensic trail then you’re going to hit a wall the first time an auditor requests infrastructure configuration records. The addition of the Virtual Serial Port capability in VMware vSphere™ was the piece we needed (from VMware) to solve this challenge.”
"TDi Technologies new Virtual Serial Port Concentrator functionality meets important requirements for mission-critical production environments that many of our customers require, providing a complementary solution to our industry-leading virtualization and cloud platform,” said Parag Patel, vice president, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware.
ConsoleWorks provides role-based access, control and security over virtual and cloud computing technologies that retains the secure connection state even when virtual machines are being moved or provisioned. For compliance, ConsoleWorks creates the auditable forensic log records for physical hosts, VMware vCenter instances, VMware virtual machines, and applications that provide a “living history” of movement, events and configuration changes regardless of the size of the implementation.
Today’s announcement signifies the general release of the new capabilities in ConsoleWorks for VMware vSphere 4.1. You can learn more about ConsoleWorks’ virtualization capabilities by downloading our whitepaper at http://www.tditechnologies.com/virtualization-foundation/.
