Advanced Clinical, a leading provider of clinical research services, today announced its “Design Your Dream Job” contest winner, Mary Parker, as well as two runners up: Jack Ostroff and Kimberly Dao.

Advanced Clinical asked job candidates to design their dream job by submitting suggestions for fostering an ideal work environment. Advanced Clinical offers candidates career growth, the opportunity to make a difference, and an environment in which they can express ideas, be challenged, become part of a community, and pursue their dreams.

In Mary’s winning “Design Your Dream Job” description, she stated, “My dream job would allow me to a) work with creative individuals who set high standards, b) be excited by and act on new ideas, c) fully exploit my talents and abilities, and d) be completely engaged. My dream job would make me feel a little uncomfortable—not too much to cause stress, and not so little as to cause stagnation. I love working with adults and teaching, whether it's patients, peers, or the public.”

Mary completed a dual masters' degree and is certified as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Adult Health) and Adult Nurse Practitioner. She worked as a former Division Officer for the Multi-Service Unit (F-2) at Naval Hospital Guam and is current Division Officer for the General Surgery Clinic. She also is a former Marine Corps Staff Sergeant.

“Mary Parker’s response was insightful, innovative and growth-oriented . . .all values that are important to Advanced and our consultants,” said Sean Gerstenlauer, Vice President, Advanced Clinical. “Mary’s desire to be challenged and work as part of a team make her a tremendous asset to any organization.”

Advanced Clinical strives to place clinical research professionals such as Mary in their dream jobs. Jack Ostroff, one of the runners-up, stated the importance of a position that is a positive experience and matches his skills: “The context of my dream job is one of openness and honesty. It matches my skills, experiences, and interests with the needs of the company and client. At this point in my life, career is irrelevant: I want to be happy and to do things that are useful and valued by those for whom I do them.”

Kimberly Dao, another runner-up, stated the value she places on innovation and open communication in a growth-oriented environment: “My dream job would be an environment that embraces innovative ideas without fear of change, allows me a degree of flexibility and autonomy, yet provides a structure for guidance and support, fosters a true trusting relationship between supervisor and direct staff, allows an open line of communications horizontally as well as direct communication vertically, and nurtures constructive feedback.”

Job seekers who entered the contest revealed other value trends as well. A team atmosphere, a job that best suits skills and allows growth, and intrinsic value were identified as the most desirable traits in a position.
