Sapling Learning, Inc., a leading provider of online learning platforms and integrated digital solutions for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (“STEM”) marketplace, today announced that it has received $2.5 million in growth capital financing from Irving, Texas-based NLM Capital Partners. The funds will be used to broaden current product offerings and expand sales, marketing, and business development initiatives in response to growing market demand.

“We’re living in a time when students not only want, but expect to interact digitally, and traditional printed materials are rapidly becoming obsolete - as seen with the explosion of eBooks, assessment, learning management, and virtual schools,” said Dr. James Caras, President and CEO, Sapling Learning. “This shift is being driven by the rapid rise in the costs of educational materials and tuition. Nationally, there is a strong push to facilitating excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, as these disciplines are critical to U.S. global competitiveness. This investment will help Sapling Learning continue to deliver revolutionary, industry-leading software solutions that change the way educators interact and engage with their students, and provide them the freedom to design, create, and evolve their curriculum. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved to date, and look forward to delivering on bigger goals ahead, shifting the education market to an age of digital learning.”

Since 2005, Sapling Learning has provided the technologies that deliver effective online learning experiences relevant to the STEM disciplines. Sapling Learning provides a software-as-a-service online homework platform for high school and college instructors and students that integrates science, math, and engineering problem solving and instruction with eBooks and instructional media. Instructors adopt it for their courses, and students pay for a subscription to the service. With technology that gives instructors total control over the instructional content within their courses, Sapling Learning’s solutions drive down the cost of education to the student and the cost of providing affective instruction to the institution. Over 100,000 students have successfully used Sapling Learning’s online homework system, to date.

“The education market is rapidly evolving and Sapling Learning has shown it has what it takes to be a long-term leader,” said Randy Chappel, President, NLM Capital Partners. “The company’s growth potential is a direct reflection of Sapling Learning’s firm foundation and the digital shift in society. This additional funding will provide them the ability to accelerate their already impressive momentum.”
