Poetry: A Common Denominator of Three Very Different People

Share Article

A father-and-son poetry anthology to be featured at this year’s Frankfurt International Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 6-10.

Poetry became the voice of three people. It was the sound of anguish, struggle, pain, hope, inspiration, and understanding. Now, it will all be heard through Sum of Our Poems, a collection of poems by Ben and Frank Borsellino and Vicki Phillips.

Sum of Our Poems is a poignant and thought-provoking poetry anthology that highlights poems written by Ben Borsellino. It also features some verses penned by Frank Borsellino and Victoria “Vicki” Phillips. Frank Borsellino, while reading his son’s foreword to the book, finally grasped how deeply painful his life was during a difficult time in his life. Frank, as a dad, did what he had to do to get Ben through that trying time; but he also realized that Ben went through more than just one of life’s struggles. Vicki’s poems are also similar to Ben’s; she expressed the struggles she went through in her own life, which she battled courageously but left her in a state of confusion. Ben and Vicki may not know each other but they both underwent the same pain, confusion, and inner struggles. They both had a way of coping with those personal battles—whether it was a caring friend, relative, or a sense of humor.

Frank Borsellino hopes that those readers who may be going through the same difficult struggles of their own will find strength and comfort to find their own way through, just as Ben did. This poetry collection is Ben’s testimony of how he dealt with his personal struggles—and his way of expressing hope that these poems will be a source of inspiration and guidance for others.

About the Author
Frank and Ben Borsellino are father-and-son poets who write verses that reflect their own personal journeys. Though Frank Borsellino doesn’t know Vicki Phillips personally, he knows of her mother whom he has corresponded with through letters for many years. He wrote to Vicki Phillips thinking she could possibly be a missing high school classmate, but her mother wrote him back saying that Vicki was killed in a car accident many years ago. Frank and Vicki’s mother continued writing each other, and it was through these letters that he received Vicki’s poems and found out that she too, went through what his son, Ben did.
