On MyBuilder.com it was easy
London, UK (PRWEB) September 8, 2010
A new trend in surprise home makeovers has sprung up across the UK. Instead of buying a loved one a clock-radio or a dinner out as a birthday gift, partners, parents and friends everywhere are gifting big and small home improvements as a way to show that special someone just how much they care.
Emma Small, mother of two, did just that for her husband this season. When the Smalls first bought their house in Wales, they knew it needed some work. Two years on, between work and caring for their kids, they still hadn't gotten around to doing all those niggly odd jobs. DIY appeared to be hopeless when the not-so-handy man of the house decided to put up some shelves only for them to fall down less than a week later. That's when Emma made a plan to makeover the whole house, as a surprise, while her partner went away on holiday.
To pull it all off she would need professional help. Not knowing anyone qualified off-hand, Emma searched Google to find a team of experts. She discovered MyBuilder.com, a site that allows homeowners to search for the tradesman of their choice, whether they're after an electrician, carpenter, plasterer or more. She posted her job explaining what needed to be done, including; installing a shower above the bath, replacing the sink and toilet, tiling work, painting & decorating, sourcing and fitting 8 reclaimed stripped pine doors, laying 3mx3m paving outside and the infamous shelving unit.
A bunch of local builders came back to her via MyBuilder expressing interest in taking on the work. Emma was able to exchange messages with them through the website, read reviews left by other homeowners and eventually hire the one she liked best. Living in a remote village in Wales, she had always found it difficult to find trusted tradesmen in the past - they were always either not qualified to do the work, lived too far away, or just proved not to be reliable.
"On MyBuilder.com it was easy," said Emma. She read through feedback for the builders on her list and chose Martin (known as homesandgardens on the site), a great builder with great feedback. Emma was reassured by his profile, and liked being able to review work history before hiring.
In the end, Martin lived up to his feedback and came through with a job well done! He was able to do much of the work himself and for the more specialist projects he sourced a stellar team, including local joiners and a certified plumber.
The bathroom was given a complete makeover, all the floors downstairs were redone, new doors were put in all over the house, the exterior surrounding the home was spruced and she finally got those new shelves up! Emma even got her hands dirty and did all the painting herself. When the man of the house returned from holiday he was shocked and rather pleased not to have to bother with those wonky shelves!
