Our company has used many sites over the years with little or no luck in securing new work then we came across MyBuilder. We have cut our advertising by 95% by just using this site. Well done and keep up the good work. ranks number six in this year's Startups 100, which identifies UK's most innovative, inspiring and groundbreaking new companies.

Stonemason Ryan Notz launched in May 2008 after winning tech start-up competition Seedcamp based on his prototype site set up a few years before. Like a dating agency for homeowners and tradespeople, matches the right homeowners with the right man for the job - be he a plumber, plasterer or electrician - with feedback at its core.

The site allows users to post jobs they need doing on their homes and buildings to a network of registered tradespeople who then offer quotes for the work. Centred on customer reviews, Ryan says the site brings accountability and trust to an industry plagued by its often-slighted reputation.

Once a homeowner has posted details of a job they want doing in their home - for instance a loft conversion - registered tradespeople on the site then tender quotes to carry out the work. The homeowner is able to make an informed decision about which builder to hire, based on the quote and the feedback from other consumers who have used the tradesman before.

The site has gained enormous traction since launching. Its revenue model, consisting of a subscription fee for the tradespeople as well as commission for all work gained through the site, has allowed the company's revenues to grow quickly and Ryan has already seen over 70,000 jobs posted on the site just this year. And tradesmen who actively use to find work are turning over £1.5M monthly in business they win through the site.
