About Credit Card Security Mandates
With growing concern over increasing quantities of incidents involving massive numbers of sensitive credit card information being compromised annually, a data security council was formed by the payment industry to adopt Visa’s PABP (Payment Application Best Practices) security initiatives, and mandate that all electronic payment applications with credit card processing MUST meet PA-DSS (Payment Application – Data Security Standards) to guard against cyber data thefts.
PA-DSS Required for Merchant Accounts
As of July 1, 2010, Visa will NOT allow their acquirers (the financial institutions who provide merchant account service) to sign up merchant accounts for companies who use payment applications that are NOT in compliance with these security standards.
Merchant PCI Requirements
PCI Compliance is no longer an optional, or "nice to have" feature for businesses accepting credit card payments. All merchants must be in compliance with PCI or risk being subject to hefty fines. For more information regarding PCI compliance, please visit the Nodus® website at http://www.nodus.com/pci_compliance.html or visit the Visa website at http://usa.visa.com/merchants/risk_management/cisp_merchants.html
