TeKay Designs Releases Zuri Collection at African Gala Extravaganza

TeKay Designs newly released Zuri collection was featured in an African Gala extravaganza and cultural expo hosted by Culturally Yours on August 14, 2010 at the Houston Marriott-Westchase hotel in Houston Texas. Models elegantly displayed TeKay Designs' African fashions to an enthusiastic audience on the runway at the gala.

The Zuri collection contains fashionable non traditional wedding gowns, ethnic and African inspired bridal and formal wear from TeKay Designs Inc. Zuri, an East African name, means "beautiful" in Swahili. TeKay Designs now has one of the largest collections of African-inspired online bridal collections in the world with the addition of the Zuri collection. Each wedding gown can be worn with a gele (headwrap), veil, or ethnic headpiece. For couples wanting unified wedding attire, there is a matching groom’s outfit for each African inspired wedding dress.

Color is an important concept in the collection including burgundy and gold, red with silver, white with royal blue and yellow kente, ivory with brown embroidery, etc. For example, “We stitched blue, green and gold colored kente cloth from Ghana onto white Guinea brocade fabric to make a gorgeous African-inspired wedding gown named MAKEDA for "The Queen of Sheba”. We also embedded cowrie shells onto white voile lace with stones and silver lace trim to make a bride’s gown named NEFERTITI that includes a cowrie shell head piece and veil. Another masterpiece involves matching bride and groom wedding outfits with gold Ankhs (an Egyptian hieroglyphic sign symbolizing life) and artistic designs hand embroidered onto burgundy Guinea brocade wedding attire by artisans in Ghana. Red, the traditional color of good luck and auspiciousness, is prevalent in many wedding dresses in China, India (wedding sari), Vietnam, and Kenya. This served as the inspiration for the red and silver sari wedding attire." says Kimma Wreh, Managing Director and Designer for TeKay Designs Inc.

With the Zuri Collection, brides should no longer feel confined to the traditional white wedding gown. Rather brides and grooms can choose from a wide variety of matching culturally inspired attire in a rainbow of colors, fabrics, and styles to celebrate that special occasion.
